Many Toshiba laptop computer models have a physical wireless Internet switch as well as software that controls whether your laptop will connect to the Internet. Because the switch is part of the hardware, it interrupts the wireless signal physically when it is off. Because of this, it cannot be overridden by software when it is in the off position, but if you keep it in the on position so the physical connection is available to your wireless modem, you can override the switch and turn the wireless on and off through your software.

Turn the wireless switch on and make sure your wireless Internet connection is functioning properly.
Press the "FN" key on your keyboard, then press "F8" along with it.
Release both keys and check the wireless light on your laptop to see if it has turned off.
Hold down the "FN" key and press "F8" twice in a row before releasing the keys if the single press method did not work (this varies by model).
Keep your switch in the on position and simply toggle your Internet connection on and off using the "FN" and "F8" key combination.
