How to add smileys to pidgin
Customise Pidgin with a downloadable smiley theme or disable smiley themes entirely. (3 balls with a smiley image by Ramona smiers from Fotolia.com)

Pidgin is an instant messaging program that connects to a variety of instant messaging networks including AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and Google Talk. Pidgin includes a default smiley theme and supports user-created smiley themes. Pidgin smiley themes replace common smiley faces such as ":)," ":(" and ";)" with graphical images. Add smileys to Pidgin by downloading them then dragging and dropping them onto the "Themes" window.
