How to Make Hoop Nets

Updated April 17, 2017

Whether you are doing it for recreation or maybe you plan to sell custom basketball nets, you will need to know how to make them. The process is fun and simple. Not many people are clued in on how to do such a thing, so this skill might be something to show off.

Measure out 80 inches along the nylon rope. Cut the rope at 80 inches and repeat this process 11 more times for a total of 12 lengths of rope.

Take one length of rope and fold it evenly down the middle. Make a mark at measurements eight inches, 15.5 inches, 23 inches and 30.5 inches from the centre of the rope.

Use the overhand knot method and tie two lengths of rope together at the eight-inches mark. Repeat the process with all 12 lengths until you have a loop.

Using the overhand knot method, tie each length of rope together at the marked lengths as in Step 3. This makes the net go from wide to narrow.

Burn the ends of each rope with the lighter. This is done to prevent fraying, which can destroy the net.
