The Dell Optiplex computer line is a series of business-class desktop computers that are primarily used in corporate environments. The Windows XP Professional operating system is generally used on these computers, and if you have one that either doesn't have an operating system installed or has one that needs to be reinstalled, you can perform the installation procedure yourself with a Windows XP Professional installation CD.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Put your Windows XP installation CD into your Dell Optiplex computer and restart the machine.

  2. 2

Press any key on the computer's keyboard when the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears on the screen.

  3. 3

Press the "Enter" key at the "Welcome Screen" and then press "F8" to agree to the installation terms and conditions.

  4. 4

Highlight the drive in the Optiplex that you want to install Windows XP on and press "C," then press "Enter" two times.

  5. 5

Highlight the "NTFS" formatting type and press "Enter" to install the operating system on your Dell Optiplex.
