How to Make Paper Wristbands
Personalise your paper wristbands with a waterproof marker. (marker image by Rich Johnson from

If you have ever been to an amusement park, water park or any event that requires the guest to wear a paper bracelet, you have probably noticed that the paper is not only impossible to tear, but also waterproof. Paper wristbands work well as identification bracelets for small children who do not yet know their contact information. Personalised paper wristbands can keep your children identifiable on trips, at the beach and even the shopping mall.

Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Cut a 12-inch water- and tear-resistant envelope into 1-inch wide strips using a pair of scissors.

  2. 2

Print your emergency contact information onto each one of the paper strips using a waterproof marker. Allow the ink to air dry, completely.

  3. 3

Wrap the paper wristband around each of your children's wrists. Cut each paper wristband to size using a pair of scissors. Secure each of the paper wristbands with a drop of instant, all-purpose glue.

Tips and warnings

  • Tyvek envelopes come in a variety of colours to choose from and sell in office supply stores and online.
  • If your children do not like to wear paper wristbands, allow them to pick out colours that they like. Children are often much more agreeable when they have a say.
  • Carefully cut the wristbands off with a pair of scissors.
  • Make sure that you do not wrap the paper wristband around the wrist too tight. Leave at least a fingers-width in between the Tyvek and the skin.
