How to make a thank you card template at home
Make a homemade thank you card to send. (thank you image by feisty from Fotolia.com)

Thank you cards are a nice way to express your gratitude. Thank you cards can be given after you receive gifts, cards of sympathy, or hold special events. A thank you card lets the recipient know that you acknowledge her gesture and appreciate it. If you frequently send store-bought thank you cards it can become expensive. Card templates can be made and saved in photo editing software so you can print cards for free at home. Custom thank you cards represent your personal style while saving you money.

Instructions

  1. 1

Open the graphic editing software on your computer. You can find the Microsoft Paint program under the "Accessories" tab in the programs list.

  2. 2

Create a new image by clicking "File" and selecting "New." Click on the rectangle icon on the side of the screen to draw a rectangle shape on the page. Select the dotted rectangle at the very top of the options menu on the left. This is the selection tool.

  3. 3

Click in one corner of the rectangle and drag the selection to the other corner. Select "Edit" and scroll down to the "Paste From" option to browse your computer for a picture file.

  4. 4

Choose a picture to insert into the card. Thank you cards normally have scenery, flowers or a soothing image. Hit "OK" to open the picture in the Paint program. Click on the adjustment points around the image. Drag these points in a direction that will scale the image to fit inside your rectangle.

  5. 5

Click on the icon with the letter "A." Select a complementary font colour from the menu at the top of the screen. Click on the white screen inside the rectangle and type in the box that appears. Drag the box the text is written in to make it bigger or smaller.

  6. 6

Click on "File" and under the print selection menu click the "Page Setup" option. Click on "Size" on the Page Setup screen. Select the paper size you will print the thank you card on. The "A4" option is standard printer paper. Click "OK" when you are done.
