How to Print on a Foam Board

Updated April 17, 2017

Print amazing photos, posters, and images on your home printer and mount them to foam board. Use a large- or small-sized foam board to mount projects for school or work. Foam board can be cut down to fit smaller-sized photos and papers. You can purchase adhesive foam boards from an office or art supply store, and simply peel back the adhesive to stick your image to. Additionally, you can use a spray adhesive to attach images to a foam board. Remove air bubbles and add a border to make the final product look professional.

Open your software to view and edit your image to be printed. Change the resolution to at least 150 dpi for large images or choose "photograph" in your print settings.

Change your printer settings to your photo paper type of either matt or glossy.

Print your photo at a size smaller than the dimensions of the foam board.

Lay the image to be mounted on the foam board before peeling back the adhesive paper from the foam board. Use a ruler and pencil to determine, if needed, where any additional foam board should be trimmed. If desired, measure a margin for a mat border by adding the image and border measurements.

Using the sharp knife, trim the foam board to the exact size you wish to mount the image and any mat border to.

Peel back the adhesive paper to reveal the adhesive on the foam board. Measure a margin for the mat border and draw four corners to place your image within.

Starting at a corner, carefully place the image onto the foam board, keeping it aligned and smoothed out. Press down the image onto the adhesive foam board. Use your hand to smooth the image flatly onto the adhesive foam board to prevent creases and air bubbles.

Mount your mat border around the image onto the adhesive foam board.
