A plate hanger is a useful gadget that allows for the display of beautiful dishes. This homemade plate hanger is much less expensive than a traditional wire plate hanger. Use a set of these hangers to create a stunning arrangement of unusual plates over the living room sofa or to show off an antique set of dishes in the dining room.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 28-guage wire
- Needle nose pliers
- Wire cutters
- Tape measure
Cut two pieces of wire 3 inches longer than the diameter of the plate.
Twist one piece of wire to form a circle in the centre of the long wire section.
Bend the second wire into a "V" shape. Slide this wire into the loop of the first wire. Twist the "V," creating a small loop, by pulling the ends of the wire to the opposite sides and securing the "V" inside the larger loop.
Place the plate face down on a table. Position the wires on the plate back with the large wire loop under the lip of the plate base. The plate base is the round circle on the back of the plate that stabilises it.
Turn the plate over and bend the wires over the edges of the plate to the front, evenly positioning them and making sure they are tight and secure. Trim the wires and twist them into circles with the needle nose pliers
Hang the plate by inserting the wire loop over a nail.
