How to Resize Adobe PDFs

Updated March 23, 2017

Portable Document Format documents are created from a printable source document, for example a Word document. While the page size of the PDF file is pre-formatted from the source material, such as an 8 ½- x 11-inch page, there may be a need to resize the document. Fortunately, this task may be accomplished using Adobe Reader, which is free to download. You can resize an Adobe PDF file by following a few steps.

Open the PDF file that you want to resize in Adobe Reader (get.adobe.com/reader/). Please note that this process will also work in all Adobe Acrobat programs: Standard, Pro and Suite.

Click the "File" menu and select the "Print Setup" option. This action will open a separate dialogue window. In the "Paper" section of the "Print Setup" window, click the "Size" menu. Select the appropriate paper size. Click the "OK" button.

Click the "File" menu and select the "Print" option. This action will open a separate dialogue window. In the "Page Handling" section, click the "Page Scaling" menu. Select the "Fit to Printable Area" option to complete the process of resizing the Adobe PDF. Click the "OK" button when you are ready to print.
