How do I mute my phone without a mute button?

Updated February 21, 2017

There are times you are going to find the need to mute your cell phone (such as while you are in a classroom, giving a presentation, or viewing a movie). Although some cell phones have a built in mute button, giving you instant access to turn off your phone's ringer many do not come with this function, forcing you to go into the device's menu and adjust the set-up information.

Power on the cell phone and press the "Menu" button to bring up the main cell phone information.

Choose "Sound." This option controls all of the audio features on the cell phone, including the ringer.

Choose "Ringer," then select "Mute." This turns the ringing off. When you want to turn the ringing back on return to this menu and remove the mute option.

Press "Menu" again and the phone returns back to the main page.
