Repairing a water damaged BlackBerry Curve is easier than you think. The BlackBerry Curve is a very resilient mobile phone. It can withstand a few bumps here and there and it can even withstand water if you act quickly. Accidents happen, but if you want to continue checking your e-mail and messaging your contacts, without having to purchase equipment or make a claim to your insurance company, you will need to complete these tasks before the water damages the major components of your phone.

  1. 1

Power down the mobile phone and remove the battery, SIM card and media card. Set them to the side and allow them to air-dry.

  2. 2

Fill a plastic bag or container with silicon gel packages or uncooked rice. Insert your BlackBerry Curve into the bag or container and tightly secure it. The silicone gel packets will absorb the water from the phone. The rice will do the same thing, so use whatever you have available.

  3. 3

Allow the BlackBerry to remain in the container or bag for approximately 24 hours. Periodically check on the phone to see if the insides have changed colours. The phone is not salvageable if the inside begins to rust. If the phone still looks normal, reinsert the battery, SIM card and media card.

  4. 4

Power on the phone and see if your icons appear. If they do, make a test call and try to access a few of your features such as e-mail, text messaging or picture mail. If your features are working properly, then you have successfully repaired your water-damaged BlackBerry Curve. However, if your features are not working properly you may have to replace the phone or get a new motherboard.

Tips and warnings

  • Never use heat to dry out your BlackBerry Curve. Heat can melt the components of your phone, which may render it inoperable.
