How to Unclog an InSinkErator Badger

Updated November 21, 2016

The InSinkErator Badger is a garbage disposal designed for home use that is strong enough to dispose of coffee grounds, fruit rinds and even chicken bones, among other food debris. The Badger features a ¾ horsepower motor, quiet operation, steel construction for increased durability and a compact size to fit in a variety of spaces. While the unit should operate well under most circumstances, if the garbage disposal gets clogged, there are a few ways to clear it.

Turn off the water to the sink and the power switch to the Badger garbage disposal.

Place one end of the small wrench that is provided with the garbage disposal into the hole in the centre bottom of the unit.

Work the wrench in a back and forth motion until it turns one full revolution freely. Remove the wrench.

Wait 5 minutes to allow the motor to cool completely. Then, use a pair of tongs to reach down and pull the obstruction out of the garbage disposal.

Push the red reset button, located on the bottom of the unit.
