The basic input output system (BIOS) is a critical component that your Dell Dimension 9100 needs in order to boot up properly. When you first turn on your Dimension 9100, it runs through the BIOS procedure, to make sure all of the various chip sets and drives are functioning. After any internal hardware components are replaced or upgraded, you may need to also update the BIOS for your Dimension 9100 to continue working correctly.

Restart the Dell Dimension 9100 computer. Tap the keyboard's "F2" key until the 9100's BIOS menu appears on the screen.
Scroll over to the "Main" BIOS tab. Locate the "BIOS Info" entry and note down the version number. Scroll over to the "Exit" tab.
Highlight the "Save and Exit" option and press Enter to restart the Dell Dimension 9100's operating system. Navigate to the driver download Web page for the Dimension 9100.
Click the "Operating System" option underneath the "Refine Your Results" heading. Choose the current operating system installed on your Dimension 9100. Click "Category" and choose "BIOS."
Check through the list of available BIOS updates and locate the latest version. Select the "Download" link, and choose "Save File."
Navigate to the folder where you saved the Dell BIOS update file. Double-click the BIOS executable file. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the Dimension 9100's BIOS version.
Tips and warnings
