Street banners can be used to announce or promote a variety of events, such as birthdays, garage sales, or an open house. Although designing and screen printing a custom, personalised banner can be expensive, this cost can go down significantly by designing the banner with a computer graphics program, and uploading the design to a print-on-demand website that can print the banner at a very minimal cost. This way, you can focus more on your big event than on figuring out how to pay for a custom banner.

Start an image file in Adobe Photoshop. If you do not own the Photoshop program, you can purchase it at any computer or software store. To open a new file, look for the menu bar at the top of the screen. You will find the "File" tab inside this menu bar. Click on "File." The drop-down menu will appear underneath it. Inside the drop-down menu, click on the tab "New." A screen will appear requiring you to fill in image dimensions. For a banner, type in a height of 28 inches, and a width of 42 inches. Type in 300 for the resolution, then click on the "OK" button.
Type in the message for your personalised banner. Locate the narrow vertical box on your screen that contains customisation tools. Inside this box, you will see a tool whose symbol is a capital "T" for Text. Click on this tool, then click on the image. A marquee box will appear. Drag the marquee box to the proper size for your message, then click inside the box to begin typing. Locate the menu at the top of the screen that contains text editing tools. Change the font, colour, and size of the text using these tools.
Save your banner image to your computer hard drive. Locate the menu at the top of the screen, and click on the "File" tab again. Locate the drop-down menu, and click on "Save As." A screen will appear that will allow you to name the file and to select a file type from a list. Type in a name you will remember easily, select the file type "JPEG," then click the "OK" button.
Upload your banner image to a website that will print the banner on demand. This means you can order as many or as few banners as you need, without set up fees or screen printing costs. There are many of these websites on the Internet, but the most widely known are Zazzle and Cafe Press. These websites have a step-by-step process for uploading your image file to the website, applying it to a banner, and ordering your banners.
