How to Change an Output From VGA to HDMI

Updated February 21, 2017

The VGA connection on your computer usually connects into the monitor, but you can use the connection output to attach your computer to a projector or even an HD television. The VGA output is better to use because you can easily convert it to HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and not lose any of the picture quality you do with other computer to TV connections (such as RCA or S-video).

Disconnect the cable running from the computer VGA's output to the computer monitor.

Plug the end of the VGA to HDMI cable into the open VGA output on your computer.

Run the cable to your HDTV and insert the HDMI end of the cable into an HDMI port.

Power on the television and the computer. Push the "Input" button on the TV remote and choose "HDMI." The content from the computer now appears on the television screen.
