How to Open a Rolex Submariner

Updated April 17, 2017

Rolex is a luxury watch manufacturer. The Rolex Submariner is a watch made specifically for deep diving, and, as such, it is waterproof up to a depth of 1,000 feet. The Submariner features a Triplock seal at the crown to make it waterproof at great depths. Opening a Submariner is easy to do, but you should not do it at home unless you have experience working with watches. It is easy to damage a Rolex movement when the case back is open. Rolex watches have screw-on case backs.

Set your Rolex face down on a soft cloth, so the crystal does not get scratched.

Adjust your watch case opener tool prongs to fit in three grooves around the outside of the watch case. Adjust your tool by moving the wheel located between the two top prongs. You will see grooves around the outside of the watch case.

Set your tool firmly in the grooves. Hold the watch in place with one hand, and with your other hand, turn the handle counter-clockwise to unscrew the case. You only need to turn your tool about one full turn and then lift the case back up with your fingertips.
