How to take a blade out of a disposable razor
Deconstructing a disposable razor has never been so easy. (Orange Razor image by kuchulu68 from

Use caution when taking apart a disposable razor. Although the blades are small, they are still very sharp and can easily cut your fingers during the removal process. Whether you are disposing the blades and plastic separately or creating something entirely new out of the components, great care should be taken when removing the blades. Although deconstruction can be hazardous, if the correct precautions are taken, the entire process should be relatively painless.

  1. 1

    Light the candle.

  2. 2

Hold the razor above the flame until the plastic begins to soften.

  3. 3

Holding the razor in your nondominate hand, use the needle-nose pliers with your dominate hand to grip the razor blade.

  4. 4

Firmly pull the razor blade with the needle-nose pliers.

Tips and warnings

  • If you find the plastic unwilling to let go of the razor blade, you can attempt to soften it further by holding it over the flame for an extended amount of time.
  • When holding the razor over the flame, hold it only long enough to soften the plastic, but not long enough to melt it completely.
