How to Clear the BIOS Passwords on an HP Compaq 6710B

Updated April 17, 2017

The HP Compaq 6710B computer has a feature known as the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) password that can be used to prevent unauthorised users from loading the operating system and accessing your profile. If you no longer want to use the BIOS password security feature you can clear it out of the system. The BIOS password feature cannot be reached through the operating system itself but instead must be reached through the BIOS menu.

Exit any programs or documents that are currently active. Restart the Compaq 6710B's operating system.

Tap the "F1" key repeatedly when the blue Compaq logo pops-up on the screen. Wait for the BIOS menu to load.

Press the right arrow key to navigate to the BIOS tab labelled "Advanced." Tap the down arrow key until the cursor is highlighting the "BIOS Lock" option.

Press the Enter key. Delete the current password and press Enter. Press Enter again to confirm that you want to clear out the BIOS password.

Tap the "F10" key to save the BIOS password change and restart the Compaq 6710B computer.

If you accidentally change the wrong setting you can reset all of the Compaq 6710B's BIOS options back to their original factory settings by tapping the "F5" key.
