Defrosting a frigidaire commercial freezer has become a complex procedure because of the advancements and modernisation of cooling and refrigeration technology. The mere push of a button used to start the defrosting process on most commercial freezers. Now, the process is not difficult to perform, but the procedure is a bit more complicated. Newer frigidaire commercial freezers have a defrosting mechanism that is called Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). This process is more energy efficient and is more environmentally friendly when compared with earlier freezer models. To effectively defrost a modern frigidaire commercial freezer, you must follow specific steps.

Instructions

  1. 1

Determine whether the frigidaire commercial freezer has a mechanical defrost timer or an ADC. The best way to analyse the defrosting mechanism is to look at the diagram that accompanies the freezer. Wiring on older freezer models will include a defrost timer, whereas newer models will house an ADC feature. ADCs contain an advanced electronic timer board that monitors the number of times the door is opened and the fluctuation in temperature as the door is opened and closed.

  2. 2

If the frigidaire commercial freezer has a mechanical timer, it should be registered to force the freezer to go into a defrost mode every five to eight hours. No action is needed to defrost the freezer. A heater will automatically kick on for 20 to 25 minutes, forcing the freezer into its needed defrost mode. If the old frigidaire freezer model does not automatically commence the defrost cycle, turn the knob on the timer until an audible click is heard. This will manually start the defrost cycle.

  3. 3

Initiate defrost on an ADC. If the frigidaire commercial freezer is a newer model with an ADC defrosting mechanism, begin this sequence of events. The light bulb must be functioning and visible to accurately initiate this sequence. Press the fresh food light switch five times in a row. There is a limited time frame, and the fresh food light switch must be depressed five times within the matter of a few seconds. Aim to press the button once a second for five seconds.

  4. 4

Terminate the defrost when the cycle is complete. Press the fresh food light switch five times in a row again to end the defrost cycle. Use the same timing of one depression a second. The manual override should terminate the ADC cycle.

Tips and warnings

  • If the defrost mechanism doesn't work, check to see whether the thermostat is working properly. If it is in working condition, the defrost timer or the ADC board might need to be replaced.
  • Avoid touching the inside of the freezer with bare or wet hands.
