Like legions of iPod owners before them, iPhone users have searched their devices and the iTunes menus looking for a way to transfer their music from their iPhone to their computer. Third-party developers have however stepped into the void left by Apple, and there are a number of simple programs available for moving your music from your iPhone to your PC or Mac.

- iTunes software
- iPhone/ iPod ripping software
Open your Web browser and navigate to the Senuti web site linked in the References section of this article. Click the “Try” button for a month-long trial of the software. You may not ever need to buy the software depending on how much music you are moving to iTunes.
Follow the step-by-step installation instructions on the page that appears as the trial is downloading. You can skip the two final steps unless you wish to purchase the software.
Open Senuti by clicking on it in the folder you downloaded it to (wherever your applications are) and connect your iPhone to your computer. Your iPhone will appear at the top of the column on the left side of the Senuti application window and the contents of your music library will appear in the larger window at the right.
Click on a selection of music you want to move from iPhone to iTunes. You can select a consecutive range of songs by clicking on the first one and clicking on the last one while holding the “Shift” key. Senuti may inform you that there is a limit to the amount of songs you can transfer with the trial version. Adjust your selection accordingly.
Click “Transfer,” which appears as a downward-pointing arrow along the top of the application. This will initiate the copying of songs from your iPod to iTunes. Senuti is set to send copied music to iTunes by default. You can change this or adjust settings by selecting “ Senuti > Preferences” and changing the default save location in the drop-down menu. iTunes will open automatically and the music will be added.
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
Open your Web browser and visit the iRip download site linked in the References section. Click on the “Free Download!” icon and click on the application in the folder where your downloads are saved to initiate the installation which is automatic for this program. The program will open on its own and alert you that your copy is unregistered. You can choose to ignore this and go on using the limited version of the software or you can choose to buy a license.
Select whether you want the program to automatically transfer your iPhone music to iTunes or whether you want to manually select music to transfer in the “Welcome” dialogue box that appears next to the registration reminder. Select the manual option unless you opted to buy a license for the program.
Select a library or playlist from your iPhone to choose music from in the left-hand column of the iRip application window. Make a selection of songs (maximum of 100 for unlicensed users) and click the “Import” button at the bottom left-hand corner of the application window. These songs will be added automatically to your iTunes library.
Connect your iPhone to your computer, open your Web browser and navigate to the Xilisoft iPod Rip download page listed in the References section. Click the “Free Download” icon on the left side of the page and wait for the installation prompt to appear. Click on the icon to start the installation and continue through the installation process as guided. It is recommended that you choose the folder you normally save applications in for the “Destination” portion of the installation.
Make sure iTunes is not running, as this program will not function if it is. Click the “Remind Me Later” button at the bottom of the “Registration” dialogue box.
Select “Music” from the left-hand column of the application window and make a selection of songs from the main window to the right by checking the boxes to the left of the track names. Click the “iPod to iTunes” icon at the bottom of the application window. iTunes will be launched and a dialogue box alerting you of the successful export will appear in iPod Rip. Click “OK.” The music is now in iTunes.
