A laptop with a fingerprint reader gives a user an additional way to log on to the computer. Not only can you manually enter your password to unlock your laptop, but you can also swipe a fingerprint into the fingerprint reader. Unlock a laptop using a fingerprint reader by carefully positioning your finger over the reader and swiping it across the reader.

Open "DigitalPersona Personal" from the taskbar in the lower right corner of your desktop. The icon resembles a fingerprint.
Click "Enroll fingerprints."
Choose the fingers you wish to use when you swipe your fingerprint into your laptop by clicking them on the picture of the hands. The program suggests you enrol at least two fingerprints, but this is not mandatory.
Follow the prompts to swipe your fingerprints into the program and save them. Close the program.
Unlock your laptop by positioning the finger or fingers you entered into the fingerprint enrolment over the swipe pad on your laptop. Place your finger over the pad so the first knuckle of your finger is at the top of the pad.
Swipe your finger down firmly and quickly over the pad. Your laptop should unlock. If the fingerprint swipe was unsuccessful, swipe it again (make sure your finger is squarely over the swipe pad).
