Woven bracelets are very popular, especially among children and teens who trade them as friendship bracelets. Also known as peace bracelets, woven bracelets can be fashioned with thread, yarn, wire, twine and ribbon. Each one is unique based on the material used and the chosen colours. Beads can be woven into the basic bracelet. Woven bracelets are worn on the wrists and ankles and can be crafted to the desired length. A simple woven bracelet using cotton thread is easy to do and can be a good craft project for children.

    Fashion the Bracelet

  1. 1

Cut the different colours of thread into one 24-inch length each so that you have six strands of thread. Hold the threads together at the top and tie a knot about 2 inches down from the top. Secure the knotted top by placing it under the clip of the clipboard. Separate the threads into a fan shape on the board. You may hold the board in your lap or place it on a table.

  2. 2

Weave the threads together. You will be working with two strands at a time.Take the first strand on the left and wrap it over and around the strand to the right of it. To form a knot, hold the second strand and pull up on the first strand.

Repeat this process to make a second knot with the first and second strands.

Now drop the second strand and pick up the strand to the right of it, the third strand. Make two knots by wrapping the first strand over and around the third strand and holding the third strand while pulling up on the first strand.

Repeat the process on the fourth, fifth and sixth strings, making two knots in each. When you get to the end, the first string will be on the far right. Now, begin with the first string on the left and work it over the string on the right to form two knots. Repeat the process until all six strings are used.

  3. 3

Stop weaving when the bracelet is the length you want it. Tie a knot in the end and then tie the knotted ends together to fit your wrist or ankle. Trim away the extra threads.
