How to Clean Chrome-Plated Plastic

Updated February 21, 2017

Chrome-plated plastic is used on a lot of cars. This material is mostly found on rims and the grill of the car. If your chrome-plated plastic has become foggy or dingy, there are several things you can do before you take it into a detailer. Many household items can come in handy when you want to get it looking new again. You don't have to be classically trained in auto repair to do this. You can do it yourself.

Pour about 5 cups of an all-purpose auto cleaner into a bucket filled with 4 cups of lukewarm water.

Dip a rag or a sponge into the mixture and make sure that it is saturated with the cleaner.

Use the sponge to clean the chrome and use a soft toothbrush to get into the tight areas.

Rise the solution off the chrome with a garden hose or a bucket of clean water.

Dry the chrome with a dry towel.
