Wearing concealer, foundation and powder is not the only way to make your skin appear smooth and radiant. Proper diet and cleansing can help you achieve the soft, glowing, blemish-free skin you desire. For those who prefer not to wear make-up, diligent skin care is essential. If your facial cleansing routine consists of a quick wash in the shower every morning, you may be surprised at the difference a more detailed washing regimen can make.

Instructions

  1. 1

Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. Soft, smooth skin requires proper hydration. If you find it difficult to drink that much plain water, try adding flavour packets or brewing a pitcher of antioxidant-rich green tea.

  2. 2

Eat a diet of minimally processed food rich in essential nutrients, and keep your sodium and sugar intake low. Pack your meals with fresh fruits and vegetables, especially leafy greens.

  3. 3

Cleanse your skin with a gentle daily cleanser and lukewarm water. Look for a soap-free version to help prevent overdrying. Massage the cleanser onto your face with your fingertips, making small circles. Splash your face with water until all the cleanser is removed. Pat your delicate facial skin dry using a clean, soft towel.

  4. 4

Exfoliate your face twice a week to remove dead surface cells. Wash your face with a soft washcloth or use a cleanser containing apricot kernels, microbeads or alpha hydroxy acids.

  5. 5

Tone and moisturise your skin after both cleansing and exfoliating. Use a toner formulated for your skin type or try plain witch hazel for oily skin or rose water for dry skin. You can find rose water as an inexpensive cooking ingredient in Indian grocery stores.

  6. 6

Avoid alcohol and cigarettes and get plenty of sleep and exercise. Your skin reflects the way you treat your body.
