Sony Vegas is a professional video editing program aimed at the consumer market. When using Sony Vegas, video files are saved with the VEG file extension. VEG is the product file extension for the program and serves as a blueprint to where the actual video files are located on your computer. For this reason, VEG files can only be converted to AVI files from within the Sony Vegas program. With the right commands, you can easily save your Sony Vegas video files to AVI format.

    Launch Sony Vegas on your computer. Click "File" and "Open" to open the Sony Vegas video file. It will have the VEG file extension.
