The Kia Sportage was introduced in 1995, discontinued in 2003 and brought back in 2005. The original Sportage was a traditional rear-wheel drive SUV while the newer model is an efficient front-wheel drive SUV. Removing the CD player from your Sportage is fairly simple, particularly if you own a 2005 to 2009 model. Always unhook the negative battery cable before removing your CD player or car stereo; this prevents electrical shock.

    2001 to 2003 Sportage

  1. 1

Disconnect the negative battery cable with your pliers.

  2. 2

Pry off the air conditioning control/vent panel. Grasp the panel with your hands and pull it sharply. Unplug the connection from behind.

  3. 3

Remove the four screw covers and screws underneath the steering column. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the covers off then use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws.

  4. 4

Remove the three Phillips head screws from the driver's side of the dash panel. Open the driver's side door to view the screws: one is on the side of the dash; the other two are near the hood release latch.

  5. 5

Remove the four Phillips head screws securing the instrument panel in place. Two of the screws are above the odometer cluster: one is above the radio; the other is to the left of the steering column.

  6. 6

Remove the entire instrument panel. The instrument panel extends from the left side of the steering column to the radio. Grasp the panel with your hands, then pull it up and out to remove it.

  7. 7

Remove the radio screws and then remove the radio. The four radio mounting screws are visible with the instrument panel removed. Pull the radio out and unplug the wiring harness and antenna.

    2005 to 2009 Sportage

  1. 1

Disconnect the negative battery cable with your pliers.

  2. 2

Pull off the radio/climate control panel. Grasp the panel at the bottom then pull it towards you to release the clips. Set the panel aside.

  3. 3

Remove the radio. Remove the four Phillips head screws mounting the radio. Pull the radio out and unplug the harness and antenna.
