How to Troubleshoot the Canon Pixma MP210

Updated April 17, 2017

The Canon Pixma MP210 is a multi-function machine that allows you to copy or scan documents in addition to normal printing. If your Pixma MP210 has stopped working properly, there could be a variety of issues causing the problem, from a paper jam to a virus infection. Rather than contacting Canon for support or taking your printer back to the store, you can attempt a series of troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem on your own.

Navigate your Web browser to the Canon Pixma MP210 driver download page (see Resources). Select your computer's operating system from the drop-down menu and click on the download link.

Double-click the driver installation file and follow the on-screen prompts. Restart your computer and attempt to use the Canon Pixma MP210 again.

Navigate to the Start menu and click "Control Panel." Select "Device Manager." Scroll down and right-click on the Canon Pixma MP210 printer. Choose "Properties."

Check to see if the properties heading lists "Code 19" as the current status, which will indicate that your computer has been infected with the "W32.Klez.H@mm" virus. Download an antivirus tool if you don't already have one installed (see Resources).

Open your antivirus tool and choose the option to scan your entire hard drive. Choose "Remove Selected Problems" and then restart your computer. Attempt to print a document, make a copy or scan an image again.

Lift up the top plastic lid of the Canon printer. Check to see if a jammed sheet of paper is visible inside the printer. Pull the paper out gently through the bottom end of the printer. Close the top plastic lid.

Power off the printer. Wait 10 seconds and power it back on. Attempt to print again. Open the Canon printer software.

Click "Options" and then select the "Clean Print Heads" button. Attempt to print again once the print head cleaning procedure is finished. Contact Canon directly for a repair or replacement through the warranty if the problem persists.

If your computer has an operating system besides Windows Vista, you may need to choose different options to reach the Device Manager window.

The Canon Pixma MP210 printer is not compatible with the 64-bit version of the Windows XP operating system.
