It is easy to find out who owns a website domain by doing what is called a WHOIS lookup. WHOIS is a protocol that allows you to look up domain name registrations and find out who registered a domain name, when it was registered and other details. Although it is required that all domain registrations include such information, some companies and individuals may choose to register through a third party to keep their information private. In a case such as that, you may need to contact the third party to find the true owner of the domain name.

    Connect to the Internet and navigate to Whois.net.

    Type the domain name in the box marked "WHOIS Lookup" and select the correct extension from the drop-down menu.

    Click "Go!" to complete the domain lookup.

    Scroll down until you see the section marked "Registrant Contact." There you will find the name, company name (if applicable), address, phone number and e-mail address of the person who registered the domain name. You will also find the date that the domain was registered and the date that it expires.
