The shower should be your salvation. When you're first waking up in the morning, there is nothing better than a powerful, massaging shower to invigorate you. However, if your shower has low water pressure, you may be feeling frustrated in the morning and wind up with soap residue in your hair and on your body.
Purchase your materials. In order to measure shower water pressure without hiring a plumber, you need to buy a water pressure gauge from your local hardware store or plumbing supply store. Purchase a 100 psi water pressure gauge and a 1/2-inch female iron pipe size, or IPS fitting. If you are not sure where to find these items, ask your local hardware retailer.
Remove your shower head. Usually you can remove the shower head by unscrewing the head from the pipe or using a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the shower head in place.
Screw the gauge onto the remaining metal pipe protruding from the shower wall. Turn both faucets on high to determine the water pressure in your shower.
Calculate the water pressure number. If your water pressure gauge reads between approximately 18.1 and 22.7 Kilogram per square inch, your shower has average water pressure and you have nothing to worry about. If your pressure is a great deal lower or higher than this reading, contact a plumber.
Contact a plumber to read the water pressure for you. In order to hire a plumber to read your water pressure, you do not need to purchase any equipment and the plumber will do the reading for you as well as fix the problem if necessary. A plumber's bill will probably be more expensive than if you bought a pressure gauge at the hardware store yourself.
