Biometric fingerprint scanning is the process of recognising humans based on specific unique physical traits, such as fingerprints. If you carry a lot of sensitive data on your computer, this can be essential to keeping your information secure. Setting up the biometric fingerprint scanner on a Compaq can be accomplished in a few simple steps using its "Protect Tools Credential Manager."

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Click "Start," "All Programs," "ProtectTools Security Manager" and then "Credentials Manager."

  2. 2

Locate the "My Identity" pane and click "Log On." Click "Next," and then "Finish." Alternatively, if you have a Windows password, you can type that in before clicking "Finish," or you can just skip that and click "Finish."

  3. 3

Click "My Services and Applications," and click "Register Fingerprints." This will prompt the installation wizard. Glide your finger over the scanner when prompted. Repeat the gliding until you see the finger on the screen become green, indicating the read was successful.

  4. 4

Glide a different finger on the scanner. You have to set up two fingers. Click "Finish." The biometric finger scanner is now configured for use.
