How to install an arm extension shower head

Updated February 21, 2017

An arm extension shower head offers several advantages. You'll experience water flow from overhead rather than at an angle and be able to stand away from the shower head. Other family members will also appreciate the different heights an arm extension shower head can reach. This article will explain how to install an arm extension shower head.

Remove the old shower head from the extension tube. Remove all old Teflon tape.

Wrap the threads of the extension tube with new Teflon tape. Teflon tape prevents water from leaking through the joint.

Thread the arm extension onto the extension tube and tighten with a pair of channel lock pliers. Place a rag over the arm extension to protect the finish.

Wrap Teflon tape over the threads on either the extension arm or the shower head--whichever is necessary. Thread the shower head into place and tighten, using a pair of channel lock pliers and a rag.

Do not overtighten fittings.

Things You'll Need
