How to make lavender ironing water

The scent of lavender can be used not only for your body and bath, but also to freshen your clothes and home. An excellent way to achieve the latter is to make lavender ironing water. As the name implies, this scented water is placed into a spray bottle and lightly sprayed directly onto an item of clothing, which is then pressed with an iron. The lavender scent will remain, keeping the clothes fresh smelling even during the most gruelling day. This solution can be sprayed in your linen closet or on bed linens and pillowcases at night. The scent will gently soothe you as you fall asleep, and you’ll awaken refreshed and better equipped to face a new day. To freshen rooms, spray your curtains, carpets/rugs, and your cloth-covered furniture. Use a misting spray bottle so that you won’t make these areas too moist. The primary difference between lavender ironing water and lavender water for grooming is the omission of moisturising agents and colouring. Fewer drops of essential oil are also used for a lighter fragrance, but you should feel free to adjust the scent to suit your own preferences.

Combine 4 drops lavender fragrance oil, 4 drops of lavender essential oil, and ¼ cup of grain alcohol into a mixing bowl.

Stir in the distilled water. The more water you use, the lighter your scent will be.

Pour the mixture into an atomiser.

Shake gently for one minute.

Allow your lavender ironing water to remain undisturbed overnight at room temperature before using.


When ironing, the lavender water can also be poured directly into the iron for steaming. Some people find that they prefer this method to spraying the item to be ironed. Experiment to discover which is best for you.
