Performing an emachines system recovery means that you wish to return Windows and the emachine computer back to its original factory state. You would only wish to do this in cases where you are selling the computer or need to erase the entire hard drive. Doing this will fix Windows problems and eliminate viruses. Follow these simple guidelines to get you started.

Things you need
- eMachines Computer
- Restore (Recovery) CD
- Backup Media
Back up all of your photos, documents, folders, files, favourites (bookmarks) and anything else you would like to keep and reinstall after the system recovery. Use a CD, DVD, flash drive, MP3 or external hard drive to store your data temporarily.
Click on the "System Recovery" icon (usually found within the start menu) and begin the process by following the on-screen prompts.
Click on "restore" and note the warnings about losing all of your data. Wait for the computer to complete the process of erasing the hard drive and creating a new partition.
Insert the emachines recovery disk in the CD tray when prompted. This will start the process. There are usually one or two disks involved and the computer will let you know which ones to insert when and will even eject the tray automatically in most cases. You may have to restart at least three times, do not be alarmed by this and keep the disk in until you are prompted otherwise.
Install Windows on the new partition and follow the prompts on your screen. Be sure to choose the largest partition, the one with the most kb available. There are usually two to choose from, as you have deleted the other ones in the steps prior.
Reinstall all of your backed up data and any software programs you are currently using, including the printer and Internet, if needed. Be sure all of your drivers and hardware is working properly, as they have been reinstalled as well during the recovery process.
