Things you need
- Prepared 33 by 23 cm (13 by 9 inch) cake, any flavour
- 1.4 litres (6 cups) chocolate frosting
- Four wooden dowels
- Gold chocolate coins
- Black liquorice
- Candy ring pops
- Rock candy on a stick
Bake a cake in a 33 by 23 cm (13 by 9 inch) pan. Let it cool completely.
Cut the cake into three equal rectangles. Take the middle rectangle and cut it diagonally into two triangles. The two remaining rectangles will act as the top and the base of the treasure chest.
Frost the base rectangle of the cake, and then insert some wooden dowels to help support the top rectangle, which will be the lid of the treasure chest. You can hide the dowels behind gold foil chocolate coins.
Place the two triangles on either end of the base and frost them. The triangles will help support the top of the cake.
Frost the top piece of cake and put in place atop the triangle wedges and dowels.
Wrap strips of black liquorice along the top and front of the treasure chest, to mimic leather straps. Add yellow or gold sweets along each side of the liquorice, for nails.
Add more gold coins, candy ring pops and rock candy "treasures" inside the chest to complete the look.
Tips and warnings
- If you are not a fan of black liquorice, use some fruit leather for the treasure chest details.
