Taking a trip but want to keep your luggage in check? The fashion expert Anna Liesemeyer can give you a few tips on how to create several looks with only 12 pieces of clothing. You'll look as fine during the day as you will during the night!

To be honest, packing for a trip has never been easy for me: I'm always carrying more than I'll need, just in case. Time and lots of travelling have taught me a thing or two, though, when it comes to packing my bags. When you only want to take a small bag with you, you need to be really creative to make the most out of what you pack. If you are travelling for more than a week, your best bet is to create looks by matching different pieces of clothing.

It's frequently easier to match neutral colours and designs with prints and fun textures. Here are the 12 pieces of clothing that I chose for my next trip:

Animal print shoes

Neutral nude coloured shoes

Ivory coloured t-shirt

Grey v-neck shirt

Skin coloured tank-top

Blue jeans

White jeans

Maxi neutral nude coloured skirt

Jean shirt

Black cotton dress

Crocheted jacket

Black hat

These 12 pieces of clothing can be matched to create 8 different looks, some for the day, some for the evenings, that you can wear to any occasion.

Packing a pair of tall shoes and a pair of flats will allow you to create a greater range of looks than if you just took one pair. On the other hand, adding layers like a jean shirt will make you look sharper. I always pack a jacket or sweater that matches at least two of the looks I envisioned.

Taking one or two hats, along with a few accessories, is an easy way of changing up a look. This felt fedora can be useful for both casual and more formal looks. A simple black dress can be adapted for a range of different styles.
