Also known as the ghost chilli pepper, the bhut jolokia is one of the hottest peppers you can grow. Found by Paul Bosland of New Mexico State University's Chile Pepper Institute, the bhut jolokia rates at more than one million Scoville heat units.

Pre-planting Time

Place the bhut jolokia seeds into a plastic sandwich bag, and freeze them for two days. Plant the seeds immediately upon removal from the freezer.

Germination Time

Bhut jolokia seeds germinate sporadically. Agriculturists with the Chile Pepper Institute claim the seeds may take as long as 36 to 70 days to sprout.

Time Until Harvest

Bhut jolokia requires a long growing period. Harvest the peppers 160 days after transplanting the seedlings into their permanent location.
