Since BMW took over production of the Mini Cooper, the car comes with premium audio equipment fitted as standard. Typical Harman Kardon systems incorporate a control console, door-mounted speakers and a power amplifier.
Harman Kardon engineers work with BMW engineers to determine the best location for all audio components, depending on the model of car in question. For example, Cabrio models have different acoustic qualities and are configured accordingly. Typically, the amp is located inside the passenger-side quarter panel.
Accessing the Amp
To remove or repair the Harman Kardon amp, unscrew the plastic trim panel behind the rear passenger-side seat. This allows partial access to the amplifier. Use a hex key to remove the plastic moulding that surrounds the trim panel to access the wiring and bracket.
Removing the Amp
To remove the amplifier, identify the screw that is fitted through the bracket tab on the amplifier. Use a cross-head screwdriver to unscrew this. Disconnect the power, ground and remote wires. Carefully lift the amplifier out of the bracket.
