Plastic Vs. Rubber Vs. Silicone Phone Cases

Updated April 17, 2017

Cell phones are an expensive but helpful tool. It is a wise idea to protect your cell phone with a case. Rubber, plastic and silicone are safe materials to use to carry your cell phone.

Plastic cases are the more affordable cases to buy for cell phones. These can be found in nearly every store, including dollar stores. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours, and sometimes include prints or popular cartoon character designs.

Plastic cases are rigid and break easily if dropped or banged against a hard surface. However, if you drop your phone from a high surface, the case will break and your phone should be safe.

Most rubber cell phone cases snap over the phone for a perfect fit, leaving the display wide open for use. Rubber cases are durable, easy to clean and provide a cushion between the surfaces it contacts. Rubber is a more natural substance than silicone and plastic because it comes from the rubber tree.

Silicone cell phone cases are softer than plastic and rubber. It is a smart cell phone case to buy because it repels water and won't stick to other materials. It is easy to clean, tear resistant and flame resistant. Silicone cases hold phones more like a skin than a case.
