Hung properly, a mirror can make a small dining room look larger. Angled slightly downward, it can highlight decorative items on your sideboard. Hung at eye level, a beautiful mirror can add drama to your dining room, also reflecting activity in the room. Hung opposite a window, it can reflect a spectacular view.

Rules of Thumb

In most cases, the distance from the floor to the top of the mirror should be no less than six feet, says Decor Medley. Don't hang a mirror so high that a hanging ceiling light fixture reflects in the mirror. A vertical mirror works best in a dining room with a low ceiling.

Bottom Line

There is no "right" height for a dining room mirror. How high you decide to place a mirror on your dining room wall is a matter of taste, function, and size of the mirror; size of the wall and the room; and height of the ceiling and ceiling light fixture.
