Acne is a common problem for people of all ages. It depends on several factors, including genetics, hygiene and hormonal imbalances. Acne products can be expensive and must be used daily. Luckily, there are cheap home remedies to help control your acne. Lemons and cucumbers are great products to cure your acne woes.

Causes of Acne

Acne is caused when your pores are clogged by a combination of sebum and dead skin cells. Sebum is a naturally occurring oil produced by your sebaceous glands. When too much sebum is produced, it mixes with dead skin cells to clog the pore. This produces a good environment for bacteria to rapidly multiply, resulting in redness and inflammation. Acne products work by either killing the bacteria or removing excess oil.

External Lemon Use

Lemon juice can help acne by being applied directly onto the skin. For those with extremely sensitive skin, the lemon juice should be diluted with some water to prevent it from irritating the skin. The juice should be applied to affected areas overnight. It dries fairly quickly. Lemon juice is acidic and full of vitamin C. It helps acne by removing dead skin cells and drying out the pimple. Furthermore, lemon juice is highly effective in reducing redness. If the remedy fails to work, then you have invested very little money and time.

Cucumber Use

Cucumber juice is an effective exfoliant. Either place the cucumber in a food processor or allow it to sit in water for a few hours. Use either mixture twice daily as a face wash. The cucumber is effective in removing dead skin cells and cleaning pores. In addition, you will increase the blood flow in in your face as you gently scrub the skin, which will help to moisturise and remove excess oil.

Consuming Lemon Juice

Drinking lemon juice is great for clearing up acne. However, it may be detrimental to your teeth to simply drink lemon juice directly. It is much healthier and more effective to mix lemon juice with water or honey to reduce the acidity of the lemon. Lemon juice will clean out the pores in your skin and give your skin a much healthier look. By mixing lemon juice with water, you are also consuming more water overall, which promotes full body health.

Daily Skin Care

There is no cure for acne. Acne remedies must be used daily to keep the condition under control. Thus, it is best to wash your face daily with cucumber and apply lemon juice each night to the affected areas. If you notice that your skin has become irritated, stop using the lemons and cucumbers for a few days until the redness subsides.
