The iPod Touch, a multimedia portable device made by Apple, has music, video, Internet and photo capabilities. Some users have experienced problems with the iPod being recognised by Windows as a digital camera instead of the Apple iPod.

iPod Touch 2.0 Software
Apple's upgrade of the iPod Touch software to 2.0 introduced the ability to access your iPod via both iTunes and My Computer (to view photos). If your iPod is showing up as a camera in My Computer, and iTunes recognises this, then it is normal. This feature was introduced to quickly move and transfer photos to your iPod from Windows Explorer, rather than through iTunes.
Unrecognized by iTunes
If your iPod Touch is showing up as a digital camera or removable media device, but isn't showing up in iTunes, then you have pinpointed the error. The error occurs on some iPods when version 2.0 of the software is installed.
Updating iPod Driver to Fix Problem
Open your Device Manager and scroll to \"Digital Cameras\" (or similar depending on operating system). Right-click the iPod and click \"Update Driver Software.\" Click \"Browse My Computer for Driver Software,\" then point the location to \"C\"\Program Files\Common Files\Apple Mobile Device Support\Drivers.\" Click \"Next\" and the drivers will update. Unplug the iPod, then reconnect it and iTunes should recognise the iPod.
Updating iTunes to Fix Problem
The problem might still occur if you are running an old (pre-7.5) version of iTunes. Go to the Apple website and download the latest version of iTunes. Install it, then try and reconnect your iPod. This should stop your iPod from displaying as a camera.
Checking Apple Services
Go to Start, then click \"Run.\" Type \"services.msc\" and press Enter. Scroll through the list for \"Apple Mobile Device\" and make sure the \"Status\" is \"Started.\" If it isn't, then right-click the entry and click \"Start.\" If it is started, right-click and click \"Restart.\"
