A facial steamer is a device that releases steam to achieve healthy-looking, clear skin. An easy-to-use facial steamer alternative can be created inexpensively. Skin-related problems such as redness especially are considerably lessened by the use of a facial steamer.

This at-home spa treatment provides brighter, cleaner and more fresh-looking skin. The stimulation of the skin cells helps to improve elasticity of the skin and overall skin tone. The facial steaming process also hydrates the skin by opening up the pores and letting go of any debris that was clogged in the pores and could have led to acne.

Facial steamers create perspiration on the face, which opens up pores to allow them to breathe. Oil, grime and dirt can all gather in the pores, and this opening allows them to be free. Ultimately these factors lead to acne, so the use of a facial steamer lessens the chance of acne appearing on the skin. A facial streamer also rids the skin of toxins and helps to improve circulation, making the skin look more youthful and lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The use of a facial streamer is also a great stress relief technique for women.

DIY Face Steamer

To create one's own facial stream, gather a hot pot of water, a herb of choice (such as chamomile or lavender), a towel and a cool washcloth. As the water is heating, add the herb you have chosen to the water. After bringing the water to a boil, remove the pot of water from the stove. Place the pot on a table and cover your face with a towel. Lean over the pot, allowing yourself a comfortable position and not allowing yourself to be too close to the steam. Allow the steam to penetrate your skin for no more than 15 minutes at a time. After the steaming process, use the cold washcloth to seal your pores.

Too much heat can be detrimental to the skin. Never use a facial steamer more than the allotted time mentioned in the instruction manual (if applicable). Most skin care professionals suggest a time of 15 minutes or less; redness can occur otherwise.

Purchasing A Facial Steamer

A facial steamer is inexpensive and easy to use. Two popular brands for facial steamers are Revlon and Conair. The Revlon Moisture Stay Facial Kit provides a nail spa kit to make pampering one's self easy at home. The Conair Warm Steam/Cool Mist Facial Sauna is another popular facial stream that includes a sinus cone to help reduce sinus congestion.
