Home Cures for Acne Pock Marks
Treating acne is no easy feat. So many things need to be accounted for, including skin type, skin sensitivity and simply what works and what does not for your particular case. It can be quite frustrating to put forth the effort to clear up a case of acne only to have it result in acne pock marks and scars.
However, there are several ways to treat pock marks as well, including effective home cures.
Ice is a temporary but effective way to reduce inflammation caused by acne and acne scars. Simply place ice cubes, preferably contained in a pack or bag of some sort, on the affected area. Hold it there for a few minutes and repeat to any other areas that require treatment. Ice reduces irritation, redness and can make the pores smaller, all of which contribute to a smoother, less pockmarked complexion.
Honey is an anti-fungal agent and works to smooth the skin. This makes it especially appropriate for treating acne pock marks. Simply rub honey onto the affected area or the entire face and leave on for at least ten minutes before rinsing off with warm water. You can keep the mask on all night, however, for an even better effect. Honey is very moisturising for the skin, so applying it to acne scars helps to reduce the harsh edges and ridges of pock marks.
Lemon juice has a positive effect on the skin because it acts as an astringent and can absorb excess oil. When applied to acne scars and pock marks, it has a lightening effect, making the skin lighter and reducing the look of red or dark spots and blemishes. To apply, soak a cotton ball with freshly squeezed lemon juice and swipe it over the skin. Leave on for several minutes before rinsing with cold water. If your skin is dry or very sensitive, you may wish to forego this particular scar treatment option.
Rose Water & Sandalwood
To clear the skin of pock marks, a mixture of sandalwood and rose water may be able to do the trick. Sandalwood is available in either oil or powder form from most organic or natural markets and is soothing for the skin, providing necessary moisture for healing. Rose water is merely distilled water from roses and is available at health food stores. To apply, mix two teaspoons of sandalwood powder with enough rose water to form a paste. Apply to the skin, especially areas with pock marks. Leave on for at least an hour before rinsing. Wearing the mask overnight is recommended. Over time, the look of acne pock marks should be softened and any accompanying redness should fade.
Olive oil can smooth the appearance of acne pock marks considerably. It works as an excellent moisturiser for the skin, soothing irritated areas and creating a more-even skin tone. However, if you still suffer from acne outbreaks or have oily skin, using olive oil to treat your pock marks may not be the best idea.
