How to Reset the Service Interval on a Nissan Navara 2.5

Updated February 21, 2017

The service interval light on the Nissan Navara 2.5-litre turns on when the vehicle reaches specific mileage goals such the 30,000-mile engine service or the 100,000-mile tune-up. On many vehicles, you can reset the interval light using the trip meter reset knob, but Nissan configured the Navara to run the service interval light through the on-board diagnostic (OBBII.) This same tool turns your check engine light on when there is an issue. Just as with the check engine light, you must turn off the service interval light using an OBDII code reader. For many, this might mean taking the vehicle to the dealer for servicing. However, with a basic code reader, you can complete the task on your own.

  1. Plug the OBDII code reader into the OBDII port located under the dash panel.

  2. Turn the key of the Nissan onto the "auxiliary" position to turn on the code reader and the Nissan's computer.

  3. Select "Clear Code" on the OBDII code reader.

  4. The OBDII code reader displays a warning about cleaning codes before repairing the vehicle. Select "OK" to bypass this warning. The code reader clears the diagnostic codes and service interval codes stored in the computer and turns off the service light.

  5. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position and remove the OBDII code reader.

  6. Tip

You can purchase inexpensive code readers from most auto-parts retailers. Most auto-parts retailers have their own code reader to help customers -- you can ask them to use theirs of you do not want to purchase your own.
