How to Directions for Ironing Patches on Caps

Updated February 21, 2017

Customized hats with patches are used to advertise a business or team; they can be expensive to produce because they are made and sewn to be unique. You can, however, save money by ironing your own patches onto caps to customize them in any way you like.

  1. Preheat your iron to medium-high heat so it will be hot enough to create a strong bond between the patch and your hat.

  2. Place your cap on the end of the ironing board so that the part you are ironing is on the board and the rest is hanging below. Hold it there with one hand.

  3. Use your other hand to lay the patch in place and position it where you want it to be adhered.

  4. Smooth the iron over the patch firmly to be sure the iron is able to melt the adhesive backing.

  5. Allow the hat to cool before wearing it.
