It is "recommended" that you not wash your lead crystal glassware in the dishwasher. However, some manufacturers and sellers of lead crystal say you can wash crystal in the dishwasher with certain precautions.

If you wash your crystal in the dishwasher, you risk the chance that the detergent and water action will etch and dull the surface of the glasses.


If you decide to take the chance of washing your lead crystal in the dishwasher, use a mild detergent and a gentle cycle. Changes in temperature can cause the crystal to crack, therefore, use warm wash and warm rinse cycles only.

Dishwasher-Safe Suggestions

It is safe to wash crystal in the dishwasher if you load it securely without the glasses touching anything and set the dishwasher on short cycle or fine glassware and china, according to the Gearys website. Use a detergent made for fine crystal and air-dry only.
