Toilet tank tablet cleaners are popular because they clean your toilet with very little, if any, physical labour. However, from time to time, using a toilet cleaning brush is necessary to remove build-up and stains. While impossible to create a slow-releasing cleaning product like the commercial ones, you can make your own toilet tank cleaner with one simple ingredient. With regular use, you may save yourself a lot of toilet scrubbing.

  1. 1

Buy the denture-cleaning tablets -- generic is OK. They are widely available at chemists, grocery stores and discount department stores.

  2. 2

Place one of the denture tablets directly into the toilet bowl -- not the tank, like with commercial products -- and wait about 12 hours. The tablet will be busy dissolving and eating away at the stains.

  3. 3

Consider placing two tablets in the tank and using the toilet as normal for the next 12 hours. This will help clean the sides of the bowl when the water comes from the tank and down the inside of the bowl.

  4. 4

Flush and scrub the toilet if necessary. The denture tablet, or tablets, should have removed most of the stains.
