Hi, this is Cristen with Cool Springs Eye Care in Franklin, Tennessee, and I'm going to teach you how to remove a torn contact lens from your eye. If a lens has torn and there are pieces stuck in your eye, it's important to remember not to use your fingernails to try to take the pieces out. It may be tempting, but don't do that 'cause you can damage your eye tissues. You are going to want to pull the piece of the lens to the white part of your eye, and then pinch it and pull it off just like you would if it was a whole lens. If you have problems and you can't get the pieces out on your own, see an eye doctor. They are going to have special instruments and much more delicate pieces of equipment that they can use to get the lens out without harming your eye tissues. You may still feel like you have a piece of lens in, even if you've already gotten all of the lens out, because as torn pieces of lens are in your eye, they can cause a little bit of irritation. So, if you have any questions, always remember to see your eye doctor. And that's how you'll remove a torn lens from your eye.
