I'm Gretchen Rivas with Relax! Massage Therapy in Wilmington, North Carolina and producer of the DVD, "How To Massage Your Pregnant Partner"; a DVD that we made for you to be able to massage your pregnant partner in the comfort and safety of your own home. What you'll need for this is a table, several pillows and some oil. This little video is just going to be a little demo of what you can do. When you're working with your pregnant partner, one thing you want to do is make sure that their propped in a safe position so that the baby is not pressing straight down on vena cava. So, after 22 weeks, always have your partner in either a semi-reclining position or in a sideline position, not flat on their back. And up to 22 weeks, if they're on their back, make sure you can put a pillow on their right side, so that you roll the baby off the vena cava which is the main return vein to the heart and you don't want to cut off the blood supply from the baby pressing on that. So, when you have them on this nice position, they're relaxed and laid back. I have a little bit of propping underneath the knees so that it's comfortable. Have a little bit of oil that I put on and in this position you can get quite a bit of the body done, you can work on the chest area and the pecs which is always much needed because as the baby grows and the body shifts position, there's usually a lot of pressure and pull through here in the pectoralis area. So, you can work on this. In this position you can also work on the neck and you can go down and you can work on the arms and doing any relaxing work that you need to do on the arm areas. And then also, you can work on the legs. When you are working on the legs with prenatal massage, you want to make sure you don't mess with the inner thigh area because that's prone to blood clots with pregnant women and if you're trained, don't work on that area at all. Now, after you work all these area here, the feet, the legs, the arms, the chest, the neck and the head, then you can turn her over into a sideline position and you can work on the low back and the hips and the back and the shoulders. And that's how you do a prenatal massage techniques.
