Hi I'm Jan. Today I'm going to show you how to knit a yarn forward. Yarn forward is a term you'll sometimes see in patterns that are written in England and it basically means the same thing as a yarn over. What you want to do is bring your yarn forward around the needle without inserting it into the stitch so I'm going to show you how to do that using the English knitting method. I've knit two stitches. Now I'm going to wrap the yarn around the needle in the same direction counter clockwise that I do when I knit. Put the needle into the stitch, wrap it around and pull it through. To create your yarn over or your yarn forward without inserting the needle into the stitch, bring it forward or around the needle in the same direction as when you knit then knit the next stitch. This is an increased method that creates a hole. You'd use it when you were doing lace maybe a small buttonhole, some decorative item, wrap it around the needle, bring it forward without inserting the needle into the stitch and knit the next stitch. I'm Jan and that's how you knit a yarn forward.
